How often should I get an eye exam?
Adults are recommended to have an exam at least every 2 years.
Those 19 years old and under are covered under OHIP for annual eye exams. Children are recommended to have their eyes examined at 6 months, again at 2-3 years of age, and then every year after to screen for eye conditions such as lazy eye and eye turns.
Patients 65 years old and over are covered by OHIP for full eye exams every 12-18 months.
Digital Retinal Imaging
Digital retinal imaging is a non-invasive diagnostic test that is used to examine the retina, which is the sensory layer at the back of the eye. It is an important tool for early eye disease detection of conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and retinal detachment.
Retinal imaging also provides objective documentation of the retina, which can be valuable for ocular health monitoring.
